That was a HOT one!
The summer certainly decided to put on a show, with some particularly hot weather making an appearance! While plenty of people enjoy a bit of sunshine, we know that too much heat isn’t everyone’s cup of tea — especially when you’re trying to enjoy a nice hot cup of tea! ☀️☕
Despite the heat, it was lovely to see everyone who came along. Our coffee mornings continue to provide a great opportunity to meet up with friends, enjoy some refreshments and have a good chat in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
A big thank you, as always, to everyone who supports our coffee mornings and helps make them such an important part of our community.

What a busy month..again!
We had two very busy coffee mornings and of course the month finished with the annual trip to St Annes.
The sun shone, the food entertainment at The Inn on the Prom was first class and everyone had a great time.

What a month!
June saw us at a civic reception in Leeds to join the Lord Mayor in recognition of the work we do with the senior citizens.
- As well as a coffee morning it was also Guiseley Carnival where a funday was had and we gor to meet the Lord Mayor again! Carnival Photos [here}

Mobility Scooter Hire: Try Before You Buy!
Are you considering purchasing a mobility scooter but aren't quite sure if it’s right for you?
Guiseley Senior Citizens Association is pleased to offer a community mobility scooter available for short-term hire.
This service is designed to help our members regain independence and test out how a scooter fits into their daily routine—whether it's a trip to the shops or a visit to a friend—before making a financial commitment.
How the Scheme Works
- Initial Hire Period: The scooter is available for an initial 6-week period. Further extensions may be possible and can be discussed at the end of the term.
- Eligibility: This is a high-demand resource. We ask that it is requested by those with a genuine mobility need.
- Cost: A one-off charge of £30 is required at the start of the hire. This is a non-refundable donation that goes directly into the GSC funds to help us continue our work in the community.
Important Information
To keep this service running safely for everyone, please note the following:
- User Manual: A full user manual is provided upon handover. It is a requirement that you read this in full before using the scooter.
- Liability: Please be aware that GSC does not provide insurance for the scooter or the rider. Use is entirely at the rider’s own risk.
- Care & Repairs: The scooter must be returned in the same condition it was received. The hirer is liable for the cost of any necessary repairs.
- Agreement: A simple terms and conditions form must be signed and dated at the time of handover.

Always doing something!
Another fantastic coffee morning with lots of chit chat, tea, coffee and biscuits.
We were also delighted to announce that over £750 has been raised from the Harrogate to Guiseley 26 mile walk has raised. Big thanks to Radfield Home Care for organising and to Candy who walked every mile in near 30c temperature!
Now we are are gearing up for Guiseley Carnival, the biggest fundraiser for GSC. The date is Sunday 28th June with the parade starting at noon and the carnival on the playing fields at St. Oswalds School.

Another wonderful coffee morning!
With the chocoholic tombola and a fantastic Easter Bonnet competion, we had another coffee morning full of chat, warmth, friendship and lots of chocolate!
We also announced details of the mobility scooter that was gifted to GSC.
Before you commit to purchasing a scooter, why not test one out in your everyday life? We are now offering our community mobility scooter for hire for an initial 6-week period.
This service is for anyone who needs it, not just anyone who wants one!

Wow! What a morning!
Nearly **100 members** joined us for another fantastic Guiseley Senior Citizens Association coffee morning – and once again, it proved there’s no such thing as an “ordinary” GSC get-together!
Nathan from Radfield Home Care North Leeds & Ilkley was in high demand with his tech tips (who knew our phones could do *that*?!), and Claire from **Care & Repair** shared invaluable advice about the free home assessments and equipment available through LCC funding – such an important service for so many.
Our ‘Do Not Knock’ door stickers were very popular – a small thing that can make a big difference.
A huge thank you, once again, to Aireborough Milkman for keeping us topped up with fresh milk for those all-important brews.
But most of all… thank you to our incredible volunteers. From setting up tables, pouring drinks, selling raffle tickets and making everyone feel welcome – you are the heart of GSC. 
Full house. Lots of chat. Plenty of laughter.

Latest news....
Is there any end in sight for this rain!!!
Even so, we had a very busy coffee morning at the end of January and now looking forward to our next coffee morning on Saturday 28th February.
We have a visitor from Care & Repair Leeds coming along to talk to us.
They are funded by LCC to provide an assessment within the home, recommend equipment and provide/install for free. They can also refer to their partners Age Uk and Green Doctor for help with applying for Attendance Allowance and keeping homes warm.
Claire will have a table in reception where you will be able to find out more on the services they offer.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service 2025
A Note of Thanks and Pride
We’re incredibly proud to share that Guiseley Senior Citizens Association was nominated for The King’s Award for Voluntary Service 2025 — the highest honour given to volunteer groups across the UK.
Although we weren’t selected for the award this year, the feedback we received was full of admiration for the impact we make in our community.
The nomination process lasted almost a year and was both rigorous and rewarding — it really made us reflect on what we do and just how important our work is to local people.
To our wonderful committee, dedicated volunteers, and everyone who supports our events — thank you. Your time, energy, and kindness make everything we do possible.
We’ll keep doing what we do best — supporting the senior citizens in our community, sharing smiles, and making a difference together.

Guiseley Senior Citizens Association are delighted to announce that we were the £1,000 winners of the Skipton Building Society Community Scheme !
A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for us — your support really does make a difference. We’d also like to express our sincere thanks to Skipton Building Society for their generosity and for recognising the work we do in the local community.
This funding will help us continue to support and bring together older residents in the Guiseley area through our regular activities, events and outings.
